Move suggested
[edit]The name of this article is inconsistent w/ other references to her and similar people. i'll move it tomorrow if there are no objections. --1698 07:52, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
- There is already a number of links referring to the page "Xiao Zhuang Wen". If you move "Xiao Zhuang Wen" to "Xiaozhuangwen Grand Empress Dowager", you must change all the links too. Also, the name "Xiaozhuangwen Grand Empress Dowager" is inconsistent with the style of naming other Qing Dynasty Empresses. She was an Empress before she became a Grand Empress Dowager, and after she died, she was again addressed as an Empress. Her name is simply "Xiao Zhuang Wen" regardless of how many titles she held during her life. "Xiao Zhuang Wen" is the proper way to name her, and you should go to the category Qing Dynasty empresses and see how the rest of the empresses are named.
- The article "Xiaozhuangwen Grand Dowager Empress" should be removed, because the informations it contains are already in the article "Xiao Zhuang Wen", and "Xiao Zhuang Wen" contains even more information. There is no reason to keep the complicatedly-named article "Xiaozhuangwen Grand Empress Dowager", because the name is not common, and is hard to find using a search engine on the web. Who created the title "Grand Empress Dowager"? It is not a recognized way of addressing an emperor's grandmother in English, and is known by very few people. People and historians nowadays commonly refer to her simply as "Xiao Zhuang Wen". 70.71.11.217 17:21, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
Isn't this person the same as Xiao Zhuang Wen? Is this article a duplicate? User:Dimadick
Merge and move proposal
[edit]- The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the debate was PAGE MOVED per discussion below. The proposal was actually to merge content from Xiao Zhuang Wen, and then move the merged article to the new location, but that doesn't make any difference (the diffs don't know where they happened, and we can't merge the histories anyway), so I went ahead and moved the page, and I encourage anyone more confident than myself with the subject matter to merge any content from Xiao Zhuang Wen that is missing at this title. -GTBacchus(talk) 09:35, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Proposal to:
- Merge Xiao Zhuang Wen into Grand Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang, then...
- Move Grand Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang → Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang.
If the two articles are merged, it doesn't matter which is moved to the previously agreed correct name and title (Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang) since the content will be the same. Since Grand Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang has a longer edit history, it should be retained as the primary location. — AjaxSmack 06:29, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Borjigit, Empress Dowager Zhuang Wen → Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang — The current title contravenes many guidelines set out in WP:TITLE - it is not easy to find, is not concise, and is definitely not her "common name", which is "Xiaozhuang". Moving it to a name under which the Empress was known by is the best solution for all of these issues. This article is also part of a bigger mess involving names of Chinese Empresses. Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang → Empress Xiaozhuang – There are two arguments based on which the page should be moved: WP:TITLECON and WP:COMMONNAME. 1) WP:TITLECON: The current title of this page appears to be erroneous as it's a combination of her title when she was alive (Empress 'Dowager' Zhaosheng) and her posthumous name (Empress Xiaozhuang), the latter of which does not include the word "dowager". The move would make the page consistent with how the other dowagers have been referred to posthumously (Empress Xiaoherui, Empress Xiaohuizhang, Empress Xiaojingcheng, Empress Xiaokangzhang; note that the pages on Ci'an and Cixi are titled after the names they used while they were alive and not their posthumous titles per WP:COMMONNAME, hence why they contain the word "dowager"). 2) WP:COMMONNAME: A simple Google search gives far more results for Empress Xiaozhuang compared to Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang. Some of the sources cited or mentioned within the article also refer to her explicitly as "Empress Xiaozhuang", such as The Green Phoenix: A Novel of the Woman Who Re-made Asia, Empress Xiaozhuang written by Alice Poon. The article gives the transliteration for her posthumous name as "Empress Xiaozhuangwen" (孝莊文皇后; Xiàozhuāngwén Huánghòu), but I leave that to people with knowledge of the Chinese language to determine if that would be a more appropriate title. - Support, but move to Empress Xiaozhuangwen instead, per the Chinese Wikipedia page title and that there is also an Empress Xiaozhuangrui which could cause confusion. Mucube (talk • contribs) 00:43, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- Relisting comment: Consensus to move, but unclear whether the article should be moved to Empress Xiaozhuangwen or Empress Xiaozhuang. Relisting for further input on this question. BilledMammal (talk) 06:49, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
There is more than one empress listed at Xiaozhuang and no hatnote (yet) at this article.Srnec (talk) 20:37, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
- Good catch. But I only see one other empress, Emperor Xiaozhuang of Northern Wei. And considering Mucube's comment that there's also Empress Xiaozhuangrui and Empress Xiaozhang, I personally think "Empress Xiaozhuangwen" would be the appropriate title. Keivan.fTalk 20:59, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
- I would also support Empress Xiozhuangwen over Empress Xiaozhuang Estar8806 (talk) 20:28, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
